A LITTLE “OVERKILL"
A LITTLE “OVERKILL"
I’m of the belief that when something happens that affects me in some way, big or small, Spirit/God is sending me a message to take notice.
Last night on my way home at 11:15 pm which in Santa Fe is very late to be out and not in bed, I was driving home from a very cool, important event (see P.S. below) when a little cottontail bunny darted out from the brush and I was almost charged with road kill.
The next third of the way the same thing happened…swerve-and-brake leaving me with both my heart racing and feeling very relieved we were both left unscathed.
However, this was when it hit me that there was something else going on for me to sit up and take notice so I asked myself why has this happened twice in a matter of a few moments?
Yes, it’s that time of night when these little creatures seem to come out foraging for food while feeling safe…um, maybe not, but my conclusion was that this was a sign that said “Slow Down Jude”.
Traveling roads in Santa Fe are for the most part quite easy. Most of the days this girl takes license in taking advantage of little traffic to drive a bit faster to make up for the inability to do so for the last 40 plus years in So Cal.
So on to the last part of my trip obeying the neighborhood signs asking the patrons of the neighborhood to travel at 15 mph I paid heed and I’m glad I did! Right before I turned into my driveway guess who showed up? Bunny #3! And yes, I was able to leave it behind both safe and sound!
This in what might seem like a non-sensical mind exercise not only taught me to always be aware and to remember that I live around ‘lions/tigers and bears, oh my’ but to make every moment count. There are lessons to be learned all the time about becoming more conscious; to pay attention to some of these perceived outdated rules (15 mph???) for a good reason. By simply slow down and giving the life around us more attention and by taking advantage of simple signals that have hidden or obvious messages in which to pay heed are such a gift and ones in which you would never want to return!
With heartfelt blessings to you and all bunnies,
P.S. Btw, this is worth mentioning. The event I attended was for an organization called Tomorrow’s Women which was co-founded in 2003 by humanitarian Rachel Kaufman, artist/filmmaker Debra Sugerman, and peace activist/writer Anael Harpaz. These women believed that the decades of violence and conflict between Palestinians and Israelis would never end if left to politicians and governments, and felt that empowered young women had the greatest chance of creating peace in their countries.
Me along with two great new friends who have been involved with this organization for 10 years got to chaperone 16 young women between the ages of 15 to 17 years old; half from Palestine and the other half from Israel for 6 hours while their house facilitators (what they now call themselves) got to go into town for dinner and to decompress.
Another plus for me was to have a coaching session with a lovely 17-year-old Israeli woman who wanted to know what to do about her boyfriend who was going into the army in 3 months for 4 years which segued into a whole hour session and not just about the boyfriend. What an interesting and heartwarming experience and gift for me as well as her.
In just a small amount of time we shifted each other lives just a little more!
